Abbazia di Rosazzo

The noble white blend of Friulano, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco, Malvasia Istriana and Ribolla Gialla originates from the historical vineyards of the Abbazia di Rosazzo to celebrate its thousand- year-long history of viticulture.

The vines are mainly trained on double-arched canes, called Cappuccina system, and planted on Eocenic marly-sandy soil with positive benefits. The 2019 harvest took place in late September. The healthy and perfectly ripe grapes were hand-picked and placed in small crates to preserve the fruit. Gentle destemming was followed by a short maceration and soft crushing. The must was then classified through decantation, and fermented in stainless steel vats. The wine was racked into oak casks to complete alcoholic and then malolactic fermentation. It remained on the yeasts to increase the rich flavour, creamy texture and ageing potential. It was bottled in July 2020 and will develop mature aromas in the years to come.

Tasting notes

Color:

Vibrant, lustrous straw-yellow.

Nose:

Fragrant, well-rounded, complex and balanced. Floral aromas of acacia, hawthorn and lime blossom followed by fruity hints of melon, Golden Delicious apples, yellow peaches and dried apricots. Freshly mown hay, medicinal herbs, mallow, sweet olive, honeysuckle and dog rose mingle with sweet sensations of candied and dried fruit, caramel and custard, alternating with spicy sensations of vanilla pods and star anise alongside hints of nutmeg, matcha tea and liquorice.

Palate:

Full-bodied and stylish, voluminous and silky yet vibrant. Refreshing sensations of citron, mandarin and pineapple blending perfectly with sweeter hints of marzipan, panna cotta and creme brulée. Firmly structured and lingering with subtly spicy, Mediterranean and minerally notes in the finish.

Food pairings:

Seafood, oysters, caviar, raw fish, shellfish, seaweed and other salty flavours. A perfect accompaniment to white meats with mild condiments.
