Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso

The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grape variety is native to Friuli Venezia Giulia and owes its unusual name to the red color of the peduncle, the part of the bunch that attaches the fruit to the vine. The history of this grape variety dates back many centuries: the earliest documents date back to the first half of the 14th century and mention it, alongside Ribolla Gialla, as one of the most prized grape varieties in the “Annals of the Municipality of Udine”.

About this wine

Mainly trained in the Cappuccina system, the vines of our Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso benefit from marl and sandstone soils of Eocene origin. The healthy and perfectly ripe grapes are harvested by hand, in small crates, to preserve the integrity of the berry. Carefully destemmed, the fruit is then crushed. Fermentation is carried out with maceration on the skins at controlled temperatures in stainless steel containers. The wine matures and small barrels of French oak. The bottled wine is then aged in temperature-controlled binning cellars.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red with purple hues. The nose is dominated by ripe red fruit, blackcurrant and blackberry, harmoniously joined by elegant notes of black pepper. As the wine opens in the glass, dried plum and an intriguing smoky note begin to emerge. On the palate, vivid and assertive, with fully ripe and exuberant tannins delivering a palpable texture in perfect balance with the structure and full body. The aftertaste is an explosion of wild berries with a touch of bitter cocoa, long and persistent, a hallmark of the great Refosco wines of this territory.
